Report Shows Louisiana’s Energy Expertise Can Fuel Offshore Wind Benefits

A new report released shows Louisiana businesses and workers stand to benefit from expansion of offshore wind nationally and in the Gulf of Mexico. The “Louisiana Offshore Wind Supply Chain Assessment,” released by the Southeastern Wind Coalition, GNO Inc., Center for Planning Excellence, and The Pew Charitable Trusts, with research partner and global energy consultancy Xodus Group, identifies recommendations to tap into more Louisiana know-how to help build offshore wind in US waters.

Vallourec Wins Additional Order from ExxonMobil Guyana

Vallourec has secured a fourth major order in the framework of the Long-Term Agreement (LTA) signed in 2021 with ExxonMobil Guyana. Under the contract, Vallourec will deliver line pipe for ExxonMobil Guyana’s deep-water Whiptail project. The Whiptail project is located in the Stabroek Block, a 26,800 km2 strategic basin located off Guyana’s continental shelf, where several important discoveries have been made since 2015.

CBED has signed a contract with Siemens Gamesa Renewable Energy for their new SOV, Wind Creation’s, first project as part of the CBED fleet. With this new walk-to-work project, the SOV joins in commissioning an offshore wind farm in the Netherlands.

Bourne Tidal Turbine Test Site Awarded FERC License; First in the US

The Marine Renewable Energy Collaborative (MRECo) has been awarded an 8-year pilot license by the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC) to test marine renewable energy- generating tidal turbines at the Bourne Tidal Test Site in Bourne, Massachusetts. The Bourne Tidal Test Site (BTTS) is the only tidal test site in the US to have obtained such a license. This license allows turbines to generate renewable electricity directly to the grid.

DOI Announces New Five-Year Offshore Wind Leasing Plan

In remarks at the International Partnering Forum conference in New Orleans, Louisiana, Secretary of the Interior Deb Haaland will announce a new five-year offshore wind leasing schedule, which includes up to 12 potential offshore wind energy lease sales through 2028. Future offshore wind energy lease sales from the Bureau of Ocean Energy Management (BOEM) are anticipated in the Atlantic, Gulf of Mexico, Pacific, and the waters offshore of the US territories in the next five years. The leasing schedule includes four potential offshore lease sales in 2024, one each in 2025 and 2026, two in 2027, and four in 2028.
