Damen and Blohm + Voss to Construct German MKS180 Frigates

The German government has announced its intention to select Damen as the main contractor, together with partners Blohm + Voss and Thales, for supplying at least four Multi-Purpose Combat Ship MKS 180 frigates to the German Navy. The Dutch naval shipbuilder is extremely proud of, and satisfied with, the result of the evaluation process announced today by the German Government, though of course awaits parliamentary approval in Germany.

AUVSI, Naval Submarine League to Host Unmanned Maritime Systems Seminar

The Association for Unmanned Vehicle Systems International (AUVSI) and the Naval Submarine League are organizing an Unmanned Systems Seminar to discuss opportunities and challenges in unmanned maritime systems integration for both the Navy and the unmanned systems industry. The seminar will take place on Tuesday, Jan. 14, at 9 a.m. EST at the Renaissance Arlington Capital View Hotel in Arlington, Va.

Sea Trials of Damen Mexican Navy Frigate Complete

Working in close cooperation, Damen Shipyards Group, the Mexican Navy, subcontractors and suppliers have completed successful sea trials of the Mexican Navy’s POLA-class ARM Reformador. The program of sea trials was comprehensive, including testing of platform and combat systems in addition to training of Mexican Navy crews. The completion of these sea trials indicates how the project as a whole is progressing: on budget and actually a few weeks ahead of the contracted schedule.

Navy Establishes 'Tech Bridges' to Speed Innovation

Assistant Secretary of the Navy for Research, Development and Acquisition James Geurts has announced the creation of the Palmetto Tech Bridge in Charleston, South Carolina under the coordination of the Naval Information Warfare Center (NIWC) Atlantic.

Naval Oceanographic Office Awards Teledyne Benthos $12.2 Million IDIQ Contract

Teledyne Benthos, a business unit of Teledyne Technologies Incorporated (NYSE:TDY) and a leading provider of acoustic releases and acoustic communications systems, has received an indefinite delivery/indefinite quantity (IDIQ) contract for acoustic transponders, transceivers, and release systems and Teledyne RD Instruments' acoustic Doppler current profilers (ADCPs) for the Naval Oceanographic Office.

Allied Forces Conduct Exercise Pacific Vanguard

Maritime forces from Australia, Canada, Republic of Korea, and the United States met in the waters off the coast of Guam to conduct cooperative maritime training in exercise Pacific Vanguard Nov. 20.
