GlobeNet Deploys Infinera Intelligent Transport Network

Infinera, provider of Intelligent Transport Networks™, and GlobeNet, a wholesale provider of Latin and North America data network services, announced the deployment of the Infinera DTN-X packet optical transport networking platform across its North America routes in the Northeast and South Florida, with further connectivity to Latin America over its award-winning subsea network. The Infinera Intelligent Transport Network, featuring the DTN-X platform, enables GlobeNet to differentiate its services and increase network efficiency as it scales network capacity.

GlobeNet operates more than 23,500 kilometers of fiber optic subsea cable, linking the Americas with cutting-edge technology and services. As a carrier’s carrier, GlobeNet provides a wide range of high-performance, high-capacity, low-latency services, and has proven its expertise in each of its markets in Latin America and throughout North America. GlobeNet addresses the wholesale market by offering a high-capacity subsea infrastructure and network density at the terrestrial level, where high-performance circuits can be installed for carriers often within accelerated timeframes in order to meet their increased bandwidth demands.

GlobeNet has deployed an Infinera Intelligent Transport Network across its entire U.S. terrestrial backhaul network. The Infinera DTN-X offers GlobeNet the capacity to deliver 100 gigabit per second (Gb/s) coherent transmission today via 500 Gb/s super-channels, with a forward-scale design to support terabit super-channels in the future. This upgrade provides GlobeNet a network that can deliver over eight terabits per second (Tb/s) of transmission capacity on a single fiber. To put that in perspective, eight Tb/s is more capacity than the entire Internet in 2005, and is enough capacity to simultaneously stream over one million high-definition videos. The DTN-X is designed to scale to support up to 12 Tb/s of integrated OTN switching as well as Fast Shared Mesh Protection to provide rapid service protection even in the face of multiple fiber cuts.

"The global communications infrastructure is rapidly growing due to increasing demand for media-rich and Cloud-based services. With this network upgrade, GlobeNet demonstrates our commitment to reliably deliver the most advanced services available to our customers,” said Erick W. Contag, president and chief operating officer of GlobeNet. "Deployment of the Infinera Intelligent Transport Network enables GlobeNet to deliver advanced services today while at the same time prepare for the continued demand for capacity in the future.”

"GlobeNet's selection of an Infinera Intelligent Transport Network for its North America backbone underscores the value of our solutions to wholesale carriers operating mission critical networks," said Scott Chandler, Infinera vice president, North America sales. “The Infinera Intelligent Transport Network enables GlobeNet to automate, converge and simplify its optical transport network to reliably deliver advanced services to its customers.”
