General Dynamics Launches Latest Bluefin Robotics Vehicle
Ocean News
General Dynamics Mission Systems released the new Bluefin-9 autonomous unmanned underwater vehicle (UUV) this week at OCEANS 2018 in Charleston, SC.
Featuring a full carbon fiber body, this completely redesigned vehicle combines high navigational accuracy and outstanding sonar resolution to deliver highly-detailed subsurface data in minutes. The two-man portable UUV provides the same data collection capabilities of larger UUVs, and can be deployed and recovered from piers, a rigid-hulled inflatable boat (RHIB) or other vessels of opportunity.
What's New On The Bluefin-9:
- Unmatched Navigational Accuracy with a high-performance Doppler Velocity Log (DVL) and Inertial Navigation System (INS)
- Sonardyne Solstice Multi-Aperture Side Scan Sonar
- Advanced onboard processing so data is accessible on recovery
- Mission endurance: 8 hours at three-knots and can reach speeds of six-knots
