Invaluable Diving Terms Document Published as IMCA, ADCI and IOGP JIP

The International Marine Contractors Association (IMCA) has published ‘ADCI/IOGP/IMCA Diving Terms’ as IMCA D 057.

“This invaluable document has been prepared as a joint industry project (JIP) involving representatives from IMCA, the Association of Diving Contractors International (ADCI) in the United States, and the International Association of Oil & Gas Producers (IOGP) Diving Industry Work Group (DIWG),” explains Richard Benzie.

“The aim was to create harmonised world-wide guidance for terminology used in the offshore diving industry. This document is a live document, and the JIP encourages input through the IMCA feedback button (feedback@imca-int.com) in the online publication.

Eleven pages of the 22-page document are devoted to an alphabetical glossary of nearly 200 terms starting with ‘A foot of seawater (fsw)’ and ending at ‘Working pressure’, with definitions for each, and the source alongside. This is followed by a 256-strong alphabetical list of diving acronyms, from AAV (Annulus access valve) to XT (Christmas tree), again with both meaning and source given. ‘ADCI/IOGP/IMCA Diving Terms’ can be downloaded from the IMCA website.
