Oceaneering Bolsters UWILD Services with the Acquisition of Meridian Ocean Services

On July 22, 2016, Oceaneering International, Inc. completed its acquisition of Meridian Ocean Services, an international business that uses remotely operated vehicles (ROVs) to perform surveys on mobile offshore drilling units (MODUs) and floating production systems (FPS) that satisfy the underwater inspection in lieu of drydocking (UWILD) requirements of all major classification societies.

Rod Larson, President of Oceaneering, stated, “We are pleased to have closed this transaction with Meridian which will add talent and expertise allowing us to further penetrate the UWILD market which is a very logical adjacency. The addition of Meridian is complementary to our ROV, diving, asset integrity, and tooling services businesses and will provide a comprehensive solution for our customers.”

Meridian operates a fleet that ranges from Inspection to Work Class ROV systems capable of a variety of subsea tasks. Meridian’s smaller inspection class vehicles require minimal footprint onboard a vessel platform and can be quickly and easily deployed. Meridian also operates larger systems capable of deepwater construction and drilling support.

Meridian has developed innovative approaches that employ ROVs, AUVs, divers and other tools to address industry-specific survey and inspection requirements.
