NOC Scientist Appointed to NERC Strategic Program Advisory Group

Dr Russell Wynn has been appointed to a twelve-strong advisory group which will be responsible for recommending how some of the Natural Environment Research Council's (NERC) funding should be spent.

Securing the position in a strongly competitive field from across the whole UK science community, Dr Wynn and the other group members will act as an interface between NERC and its communities to ensure that its strategic investments are appropriate, timely, support excellent research, and tackle environmental challenges faced by business and society.

Dr Wynn commented, "I am delighted to have been selected to serve on the new Strategic Program Advisory Group, and am excited about working with colleagues from other disciplines as we assess and develop the first round of ideas for future NERC Strategic Program."

In congratulating Dr Wynn on his appointment, NOC Executive Director Professor Ed Hill said, "it is testament to the scientific excellence and strategic breadth of one of our new generation of research leaders that he has been selected, on the basis of his personal scientific expertise, to serve on such a nationally important body as NERC's newly created Strategic Program Advisory Group".

The Members appointed are experts in their area of environmental science or profession and are committed to solving real-world problems through environmental science. As such they are well placed to recognize emerging ideas and opportunities across all of the NERC remit and to make judgments across a range of scientific, strategic and policy issues.
