DT Ocean – Introducing an Open Source Tool for Building an Industry

Design tools have a vital role to play in driving the innovation and cost reduction needed to create a commercially viable industry. By proposing new solutions, and optimizing existing ones, such tools help find the best path forward for industries such as wave and tidal energy.

On 12 October, the DT Ocean project will introduce its contribution to this area: an open-source design tool for optimizing the design of ocean energy arrays. This free-to- attend seminar will provide technology and project developers with introductory training and using the tool, and insight into what the tool can do for them.

DT Ocean – Design Tools for Ocean Energy Arrays – is an EU-funded project which will accelerate the development of the first and subsequent generations of wave and tidal energy arrays. The project has developed a software suite of whole-system tools to enable the design, development and installation of wave and tidal energy arrays in a cost-effective and optimal manner. These tools will be available for use free of charge following the project’s conclusion. In the morning, Session 1 will provide an overview of the tool and its functionality. After lunch, Session 2 will provide participants with a more detailed software walk-through tutorial in break-out groups led by DT Ocean experts.

The seminar will take place alongside RenewableUK’s Renewables Marketplace Conference & Exhibition, which provides further networking opportunities. Seminar attendees will be issued with free of charge exhibition passes for the event.

The seminar will also provide an excellent opportunity to exchange views with world-leading ocean energy R&D specialists in a collaborative and open environment.
