RelyOn Nutec Invests in New Offshore Wind Industry Accreditation

RelyOn Nutec’s Teesside training center is set to be one of the first in the UK to deliver a new offshore wind accreditation.

The slinger signaller training is a new course just released by the GWO (Global Wind Organization) last month after industry leaders highlighted concerns that lifting and slinging operations in the wind industry was potentially high risk to personnel.

The global safety, skills and competency training organization already delivers a suite of GWO courses at its Teesside base, including basic safety, enhanced first aid and advanced rescue training.

With the required equipment and personnel already in place at the Teesside facility, RelyOn Nutec is set to introduce the new accreditation at the beginning of December, with the GWO courses being launched at the Aberdeen center in the coming months.

The slinger signaller course, a mix of practical and theory, will require two days training with each course accommodating up to 12 delegates.

James Dixon, product development manager, RelyOn Nutec UK, said: “Our team is highly knowledgeable of the wind industry so we are well placed to deliver the GWO standard to ensure that our delegates can achieve every aspect of the accreditation.

“This course is generally for people currently working in lifting and slinging operations within the industry, however, it could also help other people to improve their employment capabilities as new opportunities arise. There are major offshore wind developments underway in the UK in the north-east of England and north-east of Scotland, so both of our UK centers are very well positioned to fully support the industry with required accreditation as it grows around our shores.”

As well as adding a new accreditation, RelyOn Nutec has reduced its GWO basic safety training from six days to five days in accordance with the latest standards, resulting in a more competitive offering.

The organization will begin delivering one slinger signaller course per month with plans to increase delivery on demand.
