Swathe Services Delivers a Complete Multi-Beam Sonar Solution

Swathe Services announces that they have recently delivered a complete multi-beam sonar solution to the Hydrographic Department at Associated British Ports Humber. After reviewing several systems and a series of challenging demonstrations Mike Abbey, Hydrographer for the River Humber, chose the SONIC 2024 with Ultra High Resolution and Raw Water Column options for their Hydrographic survey vessel ‘Humber Sounder’.

The Humber ports support 23,000 jobs and together handle more than 58 million tonnes of cargo each year. The River Humber, which drains one fifth of the area of England, is one of the UK’s most challenging areas in which to undertake Hydrographic survey operations.

James Williams, Managing Director of Swathe Services commented ‘the technical demo was one of the toughest we have yet done. It amazes me how any sonar works in the turbid waters of the Humber River, however, the system we offered performed incredibly well under such difficult conditions and we were also able to test out the new impressive Ultra High Density and Pipeline Modes. The vessel setup and sonar mounting system has been so well designed by the port that we are running our next practical Hypack multi-beam training course at the ABP Humber facilities.’
