Teledyne Marine’s Technology for Global Tsunami Warning Systems

Tsunamis are a dangerous phenomenon that can impact a region with sudden brute force, resulting in massive loss of life and property.

A tsunami is a series of ocean waves generated by sudden displacements in the sea floor, most commonly generated by earthquakes in marine and coastal regions. Although a tsunami cannot be prevented, through modeling and measurement technologies, forecasting a tsunami’s arrival and impact is now possible.

Teledyne Marine is at the forefront of these efforts, providing key enabling technologies by participating in two global projects designed to detect and monitor the effect of earthquakes and tsunamis.
