Padtec Is Prime Contractor to Provide Long Distance Terrestrial and Submarine Optical Infrastructure Connecting the Brazilian Cities

Padtec, a global leader in optical communication technology, announces today it was selected by Google for managing and executing the deployment of high capacity submarine network connecting Rio de Janeiro to São Paulo.

The submarine cable, named Junior in honor of Brazilian painter José Ferraz de Almeida Júnior, will link Praia da Macumba Beach in Rio de Janeiro and Praia Grande Beach in Baixada Santista.

The turnkey submarine solution provided by Padtec is approximately 390 kilometers long and will enable interconnection to other Google submarine and terrestrial infrastructure in the region with the goal of expanding Google's data transmission infrastructure in Latin America. The system is comprised of eight fiber pairs and will be illuminated using Padtec's submarine optical line amplifiers - developed and manufactured in Brazil - and will also showcase Padtec's LightPad i6400G SLTE, a high capacity and low latency optical integrated platform with metro, long-haul, and ultra long-haul capabilities.

Padtec's submarine repeater was tested and qualified to withstand the harshest environments and extremely high pressure to ensure transoceanic transmissions ultra-long distances. The equipment is part of Padtec's turnkey solution for submarine systems, including the planning, management and execution of the project, in addition to integrating world-renowned submarine component suppliers.

The system deployment conclusion, from Rio de Janeiro to São Paulo, and start of operations is scheduled for the second half of 2017.
