Scottish and Southern Electricity Networks (SSEN) has awarded a contract to marine cable specialist, Global Marine Group, to install and commission a 10.8km electricity cable between Rousay and Westray in the Orkney Isles.

The Angola Cable’s South Atlantic Cable System (SACS) was successfully completed with the 21 February 2018 cable landing in Fortaleza, Brazil, after traversing 6,200 kilometers across the Atlantic Ocean from Sangano, Angola. Angola Cables reports that SACS, once operational in the third quarter of 2018, will provide a communication capacity of at least 40 Tb/s—opening up the first direct link between Latin America and Africa in the southern hemisphere.
