The BIRNS team has recently developed an exclusive deep submergence cable constructed for Cat 8.2 use, and deep submergence cable assemblies with data transfer rates of 9.4+/- 0.1 Gigabits per second.

Prysmian Group has been awarded a contract by Libra, a consortium of prime international oil & gas operators, for Steel Tube Umbilicals to be installed in the Mero offshore oilfield. The Libra Consortium is led by Petrobras – with a 40% interest – in partnership with Shell Brasil (20%), Total (20%), CNPC (10%) and CNOOC Ltd. (10%). The consortium also has the participation of the state-owned company Pré-Sal Petróleo SA (PPSA) as manager of the Production Sharing Agreement.

NEC Corporation and its subsidiary OCC Corporation announces that they have completed full qualification of subsea repeaters and optical cable containing up to 20 fiber pairs (40 fibers).

Prysmian Group and Equinor in agreement for the supply of the submarine inter–array cable system for the Empire Wind project, an 816 MW offshore wind project in New York. Prysmian Group will provide the 66 kV XLPE-insulated inter-array cable system that will transmit power from the wind turbines with a capacity in the range of 10-15 MW. The construction of the cable system’s power cores is set to begin by December 2019.

Djibouti Telecom, Somtel, Telkom Kenya and SubCom announces that all manufacturing aspects for the Djibouti Africa Regional Express 1 (DARE1) submarine cable system are complete.
