OSI Wins FEED Study for Oil & Gas Subsea Cable System
Ocean Specialists, Inc. (OSI), an integrated marine services contractor providing turnkey projects, marine services technology development and expert consultant services to government, commercial telecom, offshore energy and ocean observing markets globally, today announced the award and kick-off of a Front-End Engineering Design (FEED) study for a submarine communications cable between an offshore oil and gas field development and the customer’s onshore operation.
This feasibility study project is representative of the front-end development phase of OSI’s end-to-end approach to delivering integrated technical solutions to complex subsea challenges. OSI’s role includes the preliminary routing, installation and system design and engineering of the submarine and terrestrial cable segments, including cable protection in a production field environment. Also included is the preliminary permit and environmental review and planning which are required to advance the project to the next phase of development—the desktop study and supplier selection.
The subsea fiber optic cable will provide high bandwidth and redundant communications to multiple platforms within the customer’s field allowing their implementation of a high level of remote operations.
Speaking of the new project, OSI’s General Manager, Perry Wright, said: “This important project will make use of the full range of OSI’s study capabilities from system design and route planning to financial and business modelling. Our experience with undersea cable projects for the offshore oil and gas industry will ensure that our customer has the information they need to fully assess the project for approval and advancement into the next phases. The key to our continued success with these projects is the assessment and management of risk for our customers on these complex projects, which is a pillar of our core business. We truly appreciate the confidence that our customers place in OSI when selecting an engineering firm to manage their undersea fiber optic cable developments.”
