SeaView Systems’ SVS-603 Wave Sensors for NexSens Buoys

SeaView Systems, Inc., a leading provider of custom ROVs, underwater survey services and marine technologies, has delivered their SVS-603 wave sensor for use with data buoys manufactured by NexSens Technology, Inc. and supplied by Fondriest Environmental, Inc. for NOAA’s Chesapeake Bay Interpretive Buoy System (CBIBS).

logo fondriest environmentalCBIBS, which services and maintains a network of data buoys throughout the Chesapeake Bay, are replacing legacy equipment with buoys that are designed to provide all of the same measurements, but on smaller, more easily deployed hulls.

SeaView’s SVS-603, paired with buoy hulls from NexSens, a combination that is already proven on several buoys in the Great Lakes, turned out to be a good fit.

“Smaller, smarter buoys are being enabled by the SVS-603 which occupies a fraction of the size of other wave sensors and is significantly more efficient, enabling a commensurate reduction of the solar panels needed to power it,” said SeaView’s Dr. Timothy Crandle. “We are excited to be on the forefront of the sea change that is resulting from the growing acceptance of this technology.”

SeaViewWaveSensorFondriestBuoyComposite“The NexSens CB-Series line of data buoys was released in 2014 and has become the platform of choice for a growing number of agencies and organizations interested in real-time monitoring,” said Paul Nieberding of Fondriest Environmental. “When paired with the SVS-603 wave sensor, the system delivers real-time wave observation data at a price point that was not commercially available until now.”

The SVS-603 enables a new range of wave sensing applications through its compact footprint, low power consumption and high accuracy MEMS-based design. The sensor can be mounted on a variety of platforms that include a range of buoy hull designs/size and autonomous vehicles (AVs) and comes with sophisticated data analysis tools to make the most of any deployment.

SeaView Systems, Inc. designs, manufactures and operates remotely operated vehicles, electronics and other custom hardware/software tools, including oceanographic instruments, custom remotely operated vehicles and tooling systems, to meet oceanographic and underwater robotic applications. With deployments on buoys and specialty platforms such as autonomous vehicles SeaView’s SVS-603 Wave Sensor is the worldwide leader in compact, low power capabilities that can be tailored to a wide range of buoy hulls.

NexSens Technology, Inc. specializes in the design and manufacture of real-time environmental measurement systems with data transmission options via Wi-Fi, cellular, satellite or radio communications. Fondriest Environmental, Inc. is the exclusive US distributor for NexSens Technology, offering custom integrated land and buoy-based monitoring systems using sensors from SeaView Systems, Inc. and other leading instrument manufacturers.
