New Marine Navigation App Being Launched on June 1st, 2015

Swell Advantage is a marine social networking and navigation app for the recreational boater. The Swell Advantage mobile application is designed to fit the needs of sailors, power boaters, kayakers and stand-up paddle boarders.

Swell Advantage facilitates the social side of boating by allowing boaters to identify and locate their friends and family out on the water so they can raft up, have friendly races, or swap crew. The groups function, launching late June, is perfect for yacht squadrons and boating clubs because it allows the user to quickly identify which boats out on the water are part of their squadron or club, helping to build healthy and vibrant communities. Understanding that privacy is important, Swell Advantage location sharing is turned off as soon as the operator of the boat steps onto shore, and while out on the water boaters can turn the feature off. Swell Advantage also provides family members peace of mind while at home by updating them on loved ones’ movements while they’re out on the water.

For navigation, traditional chart based interfaces can be cluttered and confusing. The Swell Advantage app features a unique interface designed for mobile devices putting the small craft operator at the center of the boating experience. Coming mid summer 2015, Swell Advantage will be taking this revolutionary new interface one step further by re-interpreting the chart based navigation experience. The goal is to maximize the amazing technology in the new generation of mobile devices to proactively assist the boat operator while they navigate so operators can make smarter, safer decisions out on the water.

Using an innovative Navigation Ring, Swell Advantage strategically places the critical pieces of information an operator needs so that it is available and readable at a quick glance. Swell Advantage provides the operator with standard features like boat speed and heading, and also unique features like real-time wave statistics measurements, and the calculation of drift affecting the boat.

Swell Advantage will be available for free in the Apple App Store on June 1st, 2015 as an iPhone/iPad/Apple Watch application, with an Android version expected mid summer, 2015. An in-app purchase of the unique Swell Advantage chart function will also be released mid-summer, 2015."
