Fast-evolving global provider of disruptive wireless subsea technology, WFS Technologies, has underlined its ambitious growth plans with the appointment of a highly-regarded subsea industry player.

Moray Melhuish takes up the specially-created post of commercial director and will be responsible for building on the success of its industry-advanced innovations as well as increase its portfolio of national and international projects.

Moray brings an impressive track record of subsea expertise and industry know-how to WFS Technologies, a market-leading specialist in subsea wireless automation, the Subsea Internet of Things® (SloT) and subsea cloud computing networks (SCCNs) which can be applied across oil & gas, offshore wind to aquaculture and smart cities.

He was previously business development director at independent ROV specialist, ROVOP, where he played a pivotal role in helping the new start business grow from one to more than 50 ROV systems and from six to over 200 staff within six years.

Prior to this, Moray was responsible for the sales and marketing of a 125-strong fleet of work-class ROV systems at i-Tech, a division of Subsea 7, which he joined after spending three years at Triton Group - now Forum Energy Technologies - identifying companies for acquisition as well as co-ordinating business development activities across the Group including the sale of Work, Light Work, and Observation class ROV systems.

Brendan Hyland, founder and chairman of WFS Technologies, said: “Moray brings an exciting new dynamic to the company. Through his vast experience working on numerous projects across oil & gas and offshore wind, he has acquired an exceptional skillset of transferable disciplines which will bring considerable added value to our business.

“We have worked with Moray for some years and have great respect for his track record of supporting his customers and ensuring expectations are exceeded. As a company that is focused on building on our market position for future global expansion, strengthening our business development team is fundamental to achieving this.”

Moray said: “By having the foresight more than 10 years ago to recognize how sophisticated wireless subsea technology and applications can significantly reduce cost and improve production efficiency – just like how smart technology has dramatically changed our everyday lives - WFS Technologies has created a unique offering for its customers.

“I look forward to working with the team to further on these opportunities and being involved in the next exciting chapter of the company’s evolution to help ensure its continued and future success.”

An Aberdeen University graduate with an honors in Law and Spanish, Moray then completed a Masters in Entrepreneurship before embarking on a career in the energy industry.

He started as a marketing assistant with industrial valve and gas turbine specialist, Score Group, before quickly being promoted to Group business development and tendering manager. From here, he went on to become commercial director of the company’s defense prime contractor, Score Marine, which he founded.
