Decom Awards Launches Industry-Wide Search for Excellence

Decom North Sea has announced the launch of the third annual Decom Awards; the only industry awards focused upon recognizing excellence in the global offshore decommissioning sector.

For the first time since their inauguration, the Decom Awards are open to all companies operating within the sector. This year’s Awards will also see the introduction of two new categories, with all five designed to showcase the growing expertise – and often pioneering activity – that continues to positively address the challenges of safe, cost-effective and efficient decommissioning.

Categories for the Decom Awards 2020 are:

• Excellence in Collaboration
• Innovative Contracting Models
• Technical Innovation in Decommissioning
• Young Professional in Decommissioning (Under 35)
• Decom North Sea Member Outstanding Achievement

New for 2020 is the “Innovative Contracting Models” category, sponsored by the Oil and Gas Authority, which reflects the sector move towards a new standard in contracting models. Decom North Sea CEO, John Warrender explains:

“The move from traditional, operator-specific contracting models plays an important role in a successful decommissioning sector. Large decommissioning campaigns, which are managed more holistically by the supply chain, benefit from fit-for-purpose contracting models which will help create aggregation and the associated economies of scale.

“In terms of reducing the overall cost of decommissioning, the impact of innovation in this area cannot be underestimated and the intention of this category is to highlight best practice to the benefit of the wider industry.”

Following on from its inaugural year in 2019, it is expected that the Young Professional category, sponsored by Wood, will continue to attract significant numbers of entries. Craig Shanaghey, Wood’s president of operations services for Europe & Africa, comments:

Entries are open from now until Monday 9 April. Submissions are welcome from all companies operating in the offshore decommissioning sector, with categories, criteria and application forms available here.
