ODE, an international renewables engineering and project management company, part of the DORIS Group, has entered into a Memorandum of Understanding with Korean engineering company DongYang Engineering (DYE) to pursue offshore wind and other prospects across Korea and the global market.

ODE has extensive experience in offshore wind and has participated in projects across the Asian Pacific region, Europe and the US. DYE has extensive Korean engineering experience, and this MOU complements the strengths of both companies to create a strong local offering for the emerging Korean offshore wind market.

The memorandum, signed on Friday 27th of August at Ulsan Technopark in Ulsan, Korea, was attended by Mike Welch, Director of Trade and Investment from the British Embassy in Seoul, Korea. The British Embassy and the Department for International Trade has been supportive of ODE as it has developed its business into key markets in Taiwan, Japan, Korea and Vietnam.

Throughout this contract, ODE and DYE will collaborate across business development activities and the execution of engineering services including the joint development of an offshore substation design specifically targeted to Korean offshore wind farms. Both parties have a broad range of capabilities in the energy industry, from FEED and detailed design to procurement and construction.

Across this partnership, the unique strengths of each party will complement the pursuit of future work. Established a decade ago, DYE offers local, in-depth insight into the Korean energy market, having successfully worked with a number of clients in the region. Furthermore, ODE brings a 20-year track record in offshore wind to the partnership, having worked on major international projects for global clients in Korea and the APAC region. ODE has extensive experience of partnering with local engineering companies to transfer knowledge and create long-term, lasting relationships.

Jinho Paik, ODE’s Korea Country Manager, commented, “This is a significant step in ODE’s development in Korea. DYE has an established and respected presence in the Korean energy market; this memorandum will bring important opportunities to both companies.”

David Robertson, Head of Renewables for ODE, commented, “From our Seoul office, we are looking forward to drawing on our global technical expertise in offshore wind and energy transition whilst further expanding our experience in the wider APAC region.”

Andrew Baker, ODE’s Managing Director, noted, “ODE’s strategy as an international business is always to work with companies who have local knowledge of engineering and the supply chain and to then add our international understanding and best practice of offshore wind design and execution. We have found such an opportunity with DYE and we look forward to working with them.”

Mike Welch, Director of Trade and Investment from the British Embassy in Seoul, commented, “I am delighted to be here in support of this MOU between ODE and DYE. The UK is a global leader in offshore wind and we are keen to foster collaboration such as this in order to help the Republic of Korea achieve its own offshore wind development. It is vital that we work together to tackle the shared challenge of climate change.”
