EdgeTech 6205 MPES Highlighted in Two Recent Brazil Conferences

EdgeTech, the leader in high resolution sonar imaging systems and underwater technology, was recently featured in two prominent Brazilian conferences. First a paper was presented at RIO Acoustics in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, July 29-31, 2015 titled Reservoir monitoring using a multi-phase echo sounder: a case study, written by Luiz A. P. de Souza and Mariucha da Silva of Institute for Technological Research - IPT, Brazil and Tom Hiller, Damon Wolfe and Lisa Brisson of EdgeTech. The paper discussed the challenges of reservoir monitoring and how the EdgeTech 6205 MPES helped to overcome those challenges. As noted in the Abstract: “The monitoring of reservoirs presents three major challenges: accessibility to the spatially complex shallow water shoreline, the natural intra-annual, inter-annual and decadal temporal dynamics; and the large spatial extent. These challenges render the acquisition of useful geospatial/geophysical information costly and inefficient.” Continuing: “This case study evaluates the efficacy and affordability of exploiting the latest MPES technology in shallow-water survey systems.”

The second notable paper was presented during the 14th International Congress of the Brazilian Geophysical Society held in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, August 3-6, 2015. This paper (written and presented in Portuguese) discussed some of the common shallow water geophysical survey challenges and how a tool such as the EdgeTech 6205 can be used to aid the surveyors in such tasks as pipeline and cable route monitoring, dam and underwater tunnel surveys and margin erosion and silting surveys in reservoirs. Locations such as rivers, dam areas, marinas and other shallow water settings were reviewed and discussed in the paper.
