MSI Expands With Opening of New Company in Mozambique

13MetoceanlogoIn order to better service long-standing and future clients in Mozambique, Metocean Services International (MSI) has now established a new company based in Maputo.

Sondamar LDA, the third company in the MSI stable, has been officially registered in Mozambique to support clients in the oil and gas, port and harbor development and coastal engineering industries. The name “Sondamar” directly translates to “Survey of the Sea” and reflects the values and experience of its parent company.

Mozambique is a particularly important market for MSI, being a substantial source of LNG and other abundant natural resources, with its economy currently being cited as one of the most dynamic on the continent. Foreign direct investment, mainly centered on the extractive sector, has been one of the major drivers of its growth. Due to its geographic location and close proximity to South Africa, MSI’s highly qualified and experienced field engineers are well placed for optimally servicing southern African projects.

MSI has a long, well-established track record in Mozambique spanning over 10 years, with a wide spread of experience geographically throughout the country, including the long term deployment of its personnel and the training of Mozambican nationals in the field of Oceanography.

Most recently MSI has been working on a multiple location, multiple year metocean measurement project in Mozambique’s Rovuma Basin, for one of the world’s largest independent oil and natural gas exploration and production companies. The program comprises sixteen shallow and nine deep moorings (in water depths ranging from approximately 6m to 2,000m), an offshore weather station, onshore weather station and shore-based tide gauge. MSI is also responsible for operating and servicing of the equipment for the entire duration of the project.

Globally, MSI has successfully operated in 45 countries, in more than 150 measurement programs, many of which have been in remote areas under challenging conditions. MSI’s success in efficiently planning and managing these worldwide projects can be attributed to an integrated approach to individual projects, combined with extensive experience in the offshore oil and gas industry and its dedicated team of highly qualified and experienced engineers.
