MacArtney scales up Australian underwater technology venture

Fuelled by a steady increase in demand for complete integrated underwater system solutions, the MacArtney Group has opted to significantly bolster its system sales focus in Australia and New Zealand. Spearheaded by the hiring of experienced engineer and underwater technology specialist, Tom Zezou, as System Sales Manager, MacArtney is well-equipped to handle even more complex projects and system challenges in the future.

Global solutions “down under”

According to Managing Director of all MacArtney Asia Pacific Operations, Steen Frejo, MacArtney Australia has come a long way since its inauguration in 2012. “While the Australia and New Zealand based markets have long been characterised by its vast potential and tremendous diversity in demand across oil and gas, marine renewable and oceanographic sectors, we are starting to see an evident rise in enquiries from potential clients who are looking to source complete integrated system solutions from a single supplier”, Steen Frejo says and continues: “We feel that our customers are increasingly looking for one strong partner that the can trust to deliver advanced and dependable solutions - from draft to delivery - and from surface to seabed. In response to this, we are delighted to have secured the services of Tom Zezou, a long-serving underwater technology professional who brings in more than two decades of experience, great market knowledge and invaluable competencies.”

In order to successfully step up the focus on system solutions, MacArtney Australia expects to work even closer with the worldwide MacArtney network of companies and operations, drawing on the vast experience with advanced subsea solutions that resides within the group. “Many of the other MacArtney operations hold decades of experience in providing integrated solutions and at our HQ in Denmark, we even have a dedicated system solutions department. This access to global knowledge and resource sharing will be invaluable to our success”, Steen Frejo concludes.

Tom Zezou

Prior to joining MacArtney, Tom Zezou entered the industry as an Electronics Engineer with Racal Survey Australia where he progressed to become a Workshop Manager. Following his employment with Racal, Tom was a Co Proprietor of Cadlink and Jemal PCB, before joining Fugro as a Senior Survey Engineer. Most recently, Tom held a central position as Electronics Engineer with local Ashtead Technologies agent, Scope Engineering, where his role was to maintain and manage the entire rental pool including geophysical and hydrographic systems, ROV tooling and sensors, positioning systems, NDT equipment and visual inspection systems. “Undoubtedly, Tom can be classified as at ‘true underwater technology expert’ who is not only able to understand and accommodate complex system solution needs - but also provide actual hands-on technical advice and support to our customers - and this is a powerful combination”, Steen Frejo adds. According to Tom Zezou, the system solutions philosophy and positive ‘can do’ attitude of MacArtney were among the key reasons for joining the company. “I have known MacArtney for many years, and I have always been fascinated by the way they do business and by their ability to proactively develop, customise and reinvent solutions to the most complex of subsea challenges”, Tom Zezou says.

AOG 2015

Tom Zezou had his baptism of fire as a MacArtney Australia System Sales Manager when the company recently joined 620 other exhibiting companies at the AOG 2015 exhibition in Perth. “In spite of the gloomy ambience that currently permeates the oil and gas sector, AOG gave evidence to the unbroken and deeply-rooted strength and sustained potential of our industry”. The organisers put on a great show and defying attendance slightly below par, we managed to secure several interesting leads”, Tom Zezou concludes.
