Bosch Rexroth Features Innovative Offshore Solutions at OTC

A comprehensive range of products and solutions demonstrates Rexroth's expertise in offshore technology

Bosch Rexroth offers a comprehensive array of components and system solutions for offshore support vessels, exploration and drilling, offshore wind installation and deep sea applications. Many of these technologies will be on display at the Offshore Technology Conference, May 5-8, in Houston, TX, booth #4973.

Rexroth-ContinuousJacking-smContinuous jacking systems increase productivity and safety
The market for wind energy puts challenging additional demands on traditional jacking systems for installation and maintenance vessels and platforms. Bosch Rexroth meets the latest demands with a new standard in jacking: the high performance continuous jacking system. Besides increasing the load capacity, working at higher jacking speeds, and an advanced control system, specifically integrated features lead to more reliability, safer operations and a considerable reduction of required power.

The jacking cylinders are equipped with CIMS (Cylinder Integrated Measuring System), which provide the most accurate signal required by the control system to evaluate the status of the system in relation to the precision, motion pattern and leveling of the vessel or platform.

Large electric drives
With newly developed large electric drives like the IndraDrive CL/ML, Bosch Rexroth now offers a fine-scaled product range of very strong drive solutions from 110 kW to 4 MW for applications such as winches and hoist drives for cranes. These applications often call for a high degree of force, so a high degree of drive power is required. With the new large electric drives from Rexroth, machine operators can reduce power consumption up to the multi-megawatt range without sacrificing energy efficiency.

Hägglunds CBM
The Hägglunds CBM packs 50 percent more torque into a motor that is smaller and up to 50 percent lighter than its predecessor. That gives it the world's highest torque-to weight ratio. The Hägglunds CBM not only handles heavier workloads, but it also takes up less space and places less weight on the drive shaft. This means that customer machines, and in some cases the facilities that house them, can be smaller, lighter and simpler.

The motor's reduced installation requirements, combined with the higher productivity it allows, can mean lower overall investments and increased long-term revenue. The CBM also offers unique operating advantages for a hydraulic direct drive: full torque from zero speed, protection from shock loads and four-quadrant operation.

Active heave compensation improves safety offshore
Bosch Rexroth has dozens of years of experience in developing, commissioning and maintaining Active Heave Compensation (AHC) systems, which compensate for ship movements caused by wave action and improve the safety of offshore activities.

Each system measures ship movement and relays the data to a main controller. The controller then uses that information to control other components, which in turn power the winch so that the load hangs idle relative to the fixed world (i.e. the drilling rig or the seabed). So when the ship moves upwards, the winch pays out; when it comes down again, the winch hauls in. This makes it possible to position loads accurately and safely, even in rough weather.

Bosch Rexroth has so far developed three AHC variants, which differ in their components and how they are controlled.

Additional Products and Systems
Bosch Rexroth's extensive booth display at OTC will showcase additional products, alongside its continuous jacking system, IndraDrive CL/ML, Hägglunds CBM and AHC systems. The booth will also display the following products:

•Enduroq cylinder surface technology: developed specifically for offshore splash zones, meeting the highest qualification standard in the industry
•Winch control and subsea hydraulics: provide safety and reliability on ships and in deep-sea applications
•ATEX explosion-proof valves: designed for top safety and longevity
•Rineer: High-torque motors manufactured to the tightest tolerances for maximum volumetric efficiencies
•Filtration: award-winning systems improve stability and reduce costs
•Interactive documentation can be the solution to ever growing manuals and books for documentation. Environmental friendly too.

The extensive product range from Bosch Rexroth can help make any offshore application safer, easier and more cost-effective. Learn more by visiting booth #4973 at the Offshore Technology Conference, happening May 5-8 in Houston, TX.
